Why am I writing this blog? Who is it for? These are the two fundamental questions that I am going to address in my first post. Let’s start with the latter one.
Who is this blog for?
The Dilemma of the Lone Wolf
If you are not the type of person, employee, or engineer that seeks safety in belonging to a group, you’ll be missing out. The type of materials that you’ll find online is (most likely) not the same as hearing first hand insights from the people that have gone through an experience in real life. But, for whatever reason you’ve chosen to be a lone wolf. You may not have people that have interviewed and landed a job in top tier tech companies, or maybe you have a couple of them in your circle but you don’t want to reach out and ask them questions. The average reader may be thinking that this is not the right approach and you should be reaching out to your circle and even making new connections to learn from them. Well, we are not here to debate the fundamental philosophical questions. I am assuming that you are a lone wolf by choice. I assume that you don’t like making connections and asking for favor and giving back favor. That you prefer transactional relationships over you scratch my back I’ll scratch yours, or even worse, please do ma a favor sort of relationship.
So, we cleared the question of “who is this blog for”. This blog is intended for lone wolves. If you are not one, you may still read and hopefully find something useful here and don’t get me wrong, I’ll be thrilled if anyone finds anything useful here. But, I want to be clear that I am mainly writing this blog for those with a burning passion to learn and grow in their career, but, they do not know the rules of the game and they don’t have anyone to explain and demystify these rules for them.
Why am I writing this?
The Myth of the Free Lunch
What type of misleading statement is easier to sell? Coming up with something that is not tried before Or offering the same misleading statement that is used repeatedly since the dawn of mankind? I’d argue that the latter is way easier and most likely way more effective.
“I am doing this for you”, perhaps is the most powerful misleading statement used by mankind. The urge that we all feel to believe in this statement is extraordinary. Although our life is governed by rules for the most part, we always crave exceptions. Having said that, “Who is this blog for” reads as “I’m doing this for you”, and if you are the type of person that I truly intend to write for, it’s not hard to imagine that you’ll believe in the underlying message of the previous section.
But, are you wrong after all? Not necessarily. I truly believe in and enjoy empowering individuals that feel isolated and don’t know how to get started. However, I want to be upfront this blog is part of a career and interview coaching business.
